BELLE GLADE, Fla. - UPDATE:
Water was restored at 1 a.m. Wednesday in Belle Glade. Palm Beach County Water Utilities says that the area from Gator Blvd north to G-2 Canal Road south and from Spooner Road west to Duda Road east is under a precautionary boil water order for the next 48 hours.
The affected area covers 500 food service providers and a total of 15 schools and medical facilities, according to the county.
Crews are at the scene of a water main break in Belle Glade that has left many customers without water and others with low water pressure, according to Robert Nelton, spokesman for Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department.
The main broke around 3:30 p.m. on S.W. Avenue G.
Some customers were without water Tuesday evening as "as valves have been turned off to isolate the break for repair," Nelton said.
Utility employees did not say how many customers had been affected or when repairs to the main break would be completed.
Nelton said that once water service is restored, a boil water notice will be issued for those who had total water loss or a drop in pressure.
