ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. - St. Lucie County Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning to potentially finalize a bond restructuring plan that could mean an economic boost if a second major league baseball team comes to Digital Domain Park.
The ballpark is currently home to the St. Lucie Mets, an affiliate of the New York Mets.
Under the deal with commissioners, $2.5 million from taxes on hotel stays would be used for ballpark renovations.
The upgrades would include a new energy-efficient scoreboard, a fan interactive zone and first base line bleachers in right field replaced with normal seats.
Commissioners are hopeful that the changes are enough to attract a second major league team to the park for spring training, and also bring the Mets' minor league team to St. Lucie County permanently.
In 2009, the state of Florida received more than $753 million in revenue from major league baseball.
