SUBURBAN PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- A St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office deputy struck and killed a woman in a Port St. Lucie crash Tuesday night.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Deputy Matthew Brewster was driving a marked patrol vehicle eastbound on Prima Vista Boulevard just east of Lima Court when the woman walked into the path of his vehicle.

She was identified Wednesday by the Florida Highway Patrol as 55-year-old Karen Kelley.

Kelley was crossing Prima Vista just before 10 p.m. when the left side of Deputy Brewster's vehicle struck her, according to FHP.

Brewster's vehicle veered to the right traveling into the outside lane where it came to a final rest, FHP reports.

Kelley  landed face-down in the center turn lane.

Brewster was not injured. The crash is still under investigation.
