PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -
Frustration continues along the Treasure Coast as residents there try to navigate the flooding that has taken place throughout the area.

The mess was a result of the inches and inches of rain that fell Saturday in cities like Port St. Lucie.

The rain continued to fall Sunday in many areas of the Treasure Coast, but it was nothing compared to the amount that poured down on Saturday.

In Port St. Lucie, water filled up many parking lots, forcing shoppers either to fight for a dry spot or to leave and come back another day.

In Jensen Beach, it was nearly the same situation. The flooding spilled out of parking lots and onto roads. The situation restricted traffic and at times, slowed traffic to a stand still.

On Sunday, it was a much different scene as most of the roads had dried up and the flooded areas turned into puddles.

Good news for people who are behind on their holiday errands and could shop on Saturday because of the flooding.

"It was chest high in the morning and then by the afternoon we were able to get around. Go about getting to the mall and everything," said Scott Smith, a Stuart resident.

Officials with the city of Port St. Lucie said it's in the middle of updating the drainage system.  Crews are hoping to have the project complete by the summer of 2012.
