Fire rescue crews had to use the 'Jaws of Life' to rescue a driver who crashed into trees in Port St. Lucie Wednesday.
Police say Thomas D. Murray, 26, was heading south on Southeast Veterans Memorial Parkway in a 4-door Chevrolet Impala when he lost control around 1:45 a.m.
Police found witnesses who said he was driving at a high rate of speed when the car began sliding in the 220 block of the parkway.
St. Lucie County Fire Rescue used the 'Jaws of Life to cut away metal and remove him from the car. He was airlifted to a hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Police say his passenger, identified as 20-year-old Dallas L. Carometie, was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Charges are pending.
