PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- A Port St. Lucie house was burglarized and vandalized between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. Thursday. The home, in the 3800 block of SW McCrory St., had a swastika, profanity and hate messages spray-painted inside.

"I really don't know what to think," said Yolanda LaFleur, the homeowner. "I don't know I have any enemies here, because I restrain myself to myself."

LaFleur and her husband are originally from Haiti, but she said she has been living in Port St. Lucie for nine years. Her husband joined her at their home in July 2011.

"I believe this is young kids that want to play, and scare us out," she said. "On the floor, they said (spray-painted) 'Move, n---s. We have our eyes on you.' And on the wall down in the family room, they put, 'F---, dirty n---s.' And then they have swastikas all over, my kids pictures and everything, they sprayed them black. I can't go in my room now, because they turned everything upside down."

Port St. Lucie Police Chief John Bolduc said authorities are canvassing the neighborhood, searching for suspects.

"It's definitely a burglary, but there's an element of hate crime here," Bolduc confirmed. "It's extremely disturbing to the family who lived here, and it's unacceptable."

LaFleur said she is not letting this incident scare her. "I believe in God. These people don't shake me," she said.
