FORT PIERCE, Fla. - - Hundreds packed into the auditorium at Fort Pierce Central High School to weigh in on where cuts should be made to make up for the $15 million budget shortfall the district is facing.

The St. Lucie County School District school board has already sent out a list of potential cuts that include cutting all specialists and clerka at libraries, restructuring employee health care and cutting funding to athletics.

Superintendent Michael Lannon blames the shortfall on a lack of revenue filtering into the area.

Some parents and teachers said they felt the tough choices were being made on the backs of the children. They said the cuts should be made from the top down and start at the administrative level.

The meeting was set up strictly to allow people to voice their opinions about where the cuts should be made within the district.

No decisions or actions took place.
