ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. — Two young brothers found themselves in Boynton Beach after St. Lucie County Sheriff's Deputies say their mother kicked them out of their mobile home for acting up.
Jayme Beall, 30, was arrested for child abuse after deputies say she packed her kids a bag and kicked them out of their St. Lucie County trailer.
The single mother lived with her two sons, who are 9 and 13-years-old, at the Pineview Mobile Home Park on the 3200 block of U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce.
Neighbor Robin Cornelius said Beall was terrified Monday night when her boys were missing.
"She was scared, nervous, frantic trying to find her children through the (trailer) park," Cornelius said. "She was searching hard."
According to the sheriff's report, the mother was angry with the kids and packed them a bag and kicked them out around 7 p.m. Monday. The mother said she thought they would return and did it to scare them, but they never returned.
Sheriff Ken Mascara said that the brothers hitched a ride on U.S. 1 for more than 10 miles to I-95 where they called their great grandmother who lives in Boynton Beach.
Sheriff Mascara said about five hours after the kids went missing, their grandmother reported she had picked the two up and had them at her house.
"Who was the person that picked them up on U.S. 1 and said I have two children, they have their baggage with them and I'm driving them 10 or 12 miles to I-95?" Sheriff Mascara asked. "That should've been a red light in one's mind something was wrong."
Beall said that her boys were acting out, which is something neighbors say they do frequently since they've lived at the trailer park.
"The way they talk to her is bad, abusive sometimes hitting her, leaving bruises and things like this," Cornelius said. "It's very rough for her because they don't want to listen and the way the law is you can't touch your children so it kind of makes it rough for them."
Sheriff Mascara said she should not be kicking her kids out like this and putting them in danger.
He said they're lucky this ended in the children making it safely to Boynton Beach.
"Just a bad parenting decision and in addition that night she had been drinking and was inebriated," Sheriff Mascara added. "Just a poor decision."
Beall said she didn't understand why she was arrested, but now faces child abuse charges.
