Roger Orr, Port St. Lucie city attorney, subpoenaed by State Attorney’s Office

PORT ST. LUCIE — Assistant State Attorney Ryan Butler said Monday his office is investigating the city for alleged Sunshine Law violations.

The State Attorney’s Office has subpoenaed City Attorney Roger Orr.

Orr is being asked to appear before the State Attorney at 9 a.m. Feb. 22 to testify in the pending case.

Butler, who’s handling the investigation, said Monday he could not comment on specifics of the case. However, he said the investigation stemmed from Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers handing over publicly released city documents. The documents contained notes from former City Manager Greg Oravec that suggested City Council members violated the Sunshine Law prior to his departure.

Reached by phone Monday, Oravec declined to comment.

The subpoena asks for all phone records, including cell phone bills, call minute summaries, text messages and other forms of written communications among Orr, the City Council and Oravec. Specifically, the State Attorney’s Office is looking at records for the time period of city elections on Nov. 6 and Feb. 11.

Oravec was let go Feb. 7.
