PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- A Port St. Lucie man accused of shooting an officer in the leg during a 6-hour standoff at his home received bond this morning.
Robert Frey II was given a $2 million bond for an attempted murder charge, a $5,000 bond for a battery charge and a $200,000 bond for a resisting an officer with violence charge.
If Frey can make bond, a judge ordered him not to make contact with his wife.
He is currently under suicide observation.
A Port St. Lucie police officer was shot Wednesday night while responding to Frey's home in a domestic dispute call, according to Port St. Lucie police spokesperson Sgt. Frank Sabol.
Events first unfolded around 8:40 p.m. when a neighbor living near 1179 Southwest Estaugh Avenue called to complain about loud music and noises coming from the residence.
Police checked the complaint and left the scene.
They returned to the same house around 11 p.m. when a teen called 911 from the home.
Inside was a man later identified by police as 54-year-old Robert Lee Frey II.
Police say Frey's wife, 15-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter ran out of the home when officers arrived and told them he was armed.
Police say Frey had a shotgun, was threatening suicide and refused to leave the house.
In an attempt to disarm Frey, police shot him twice in the torso with "less lethal ammunition," which is designed to incapacitate -- but not kill -- a target, officers said.
That's when police say he began to retreat and fired back at officers, striking Lt. Ronald Caudell in the left leg.
Frey then barricaded himself in the home, and a standoff with officers began.
During the standoff, Port St. Lucie S.W.A.T. and a crisis negotiation team responded.
Frey surrendered around 5:23 a.m. and was taken into custody.
Frey was arrested in 2002 on domestic battery charges in Palm Beach County.
Lt. Caudell was treated and released from the hospital this morning.
