HOBE SOUND, Fla. - MARTIN COUNTY — A 58-year-old Port St. Lucie woman in a slow-moving car was killed in a rear-end crash that closed some northbound lanes of Interstate 95 for hours at Hobe Sound starting around 5:32 a.m. Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Eustace Hennes, of Port St. Lucie, was in a 1992 Honda Accord that was going very slowly, or stopped, in the outside lane when a freight truck came up from behind and couldn’t avoid the vehicle. The truck hit the rear end of Hennes’s car that a FHP report said may have had a mechanical problem that caused it to slow down.
The 46-year-old truck driver, of Riviera Beach, had minor injuries. The accident, at Mile Marker 90, remains under investigation.
All lanes of the highway reopened shortly before 1 p.m.
