PORT ST. LUCIE — A 32-year-old mother was arrested after investigators found her two young children at home without her or the father, according to an affidavit released Friday.
Dunia Carolina Guch, of the 6500 block of Northwest Chugwater Circle in Port St. Lucie, was arrested Thursday on a felony child neglect charge.
Port St. Lucie police went to her listed address at 10:30 a.m. and met with a St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office detective, who said he'd been looking for a person at the home. The detective said he knocked on the front door and a 5-year-old girl answered. The detective said he asked the girl whether her mother or father were home, and she said they weren't.
A boy who came out from a room said his father was at work and that his mother went with his aunt to the doctor. He said he was 7-years-old.
Police asked the boy whether he had a phone to call 911 in case of emergency. The boy showed investigators a cell phone and demonstrated how to call the emergency number.
Guch arrived and said her sister's infant was sick. Guch said she took the sister and infant to the doctor's office, saying she was gone for about 45 minutes.
Police confirmed Guch's account with her sister.
Guch was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail.
She was released Thursday on $3,750 bail, a jail official said Friday.
