Port St. Lucie, Fla. - Port St. Lucie Police officers and a SWAT team are investigating what they are calling a significant marijuana growing operation in the 1000 block of S.W. Coleman Avenue in Port St. Lucie.

In two rooms there were fresh marijuana plants and a lot of dried materials, police said. They originally estimated the value at $70,000. A short time later they upped the estimate to $250,000.

Port St. Lucie police have been working on  the investigation since 2 a.m; once they received word of it they arrived with search warrants.

They say no one was home when they arrived, so no arrests have been made.

They believe whoever was home may have escaped through a backyard fence.

Officers say they could smell a strong odor of marijuana.

A K9 unit is on scene to make sure nothing has been buried and to ensure investigators
have done a clean sweep.
