A Port St. Lucie man, with an extensive criminal record, is under arrest after police say he tried to kill his girlfriend.
42-year-old Oren Keith faces five felony charges, including attempted murder.
According to an arrest affidavit, Keith tried to strangle his domestic partner and then force her to have sex with him.
When she showed up at the police station to file a complaint a police report noted that she had extensive bruising around her eyes and down below her cheekbones.
She said the trouble began on Sunday August 26th when Keith arrived home 'drunk and violent.' She said when she tried to leave Keith grabbed her from behind and forced her to the ground. She claims he choked her which caused her to lose consciousness and that she woke up in a closet.
The victim told police that Keith also threatened her child.
According to the affidavit, Keith told police he accidentally hit the victim in her face with his elbow. He denied forcing her to have sex, choking her, locking her in a closet or attempting to kill her.
Police have charged him with attempted murder, sexual assault, battery and false imprisonment.
Police say Keith's criminal record includes 44 arrests and 13 felony convictions.
