PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The rain may have been loud just after 6:30 Tuesday morning on Crosspoint Drive. In any event, no one heard anything out of the ordinary.
But Al James says his wife saw something on her way to work that was very unusual.
She and a handful of others called 9-1-1.
"My wife said the child was completely naked in the middle of the road walking," James said.
When police arrived, they found a 14-year-old teen wearing nothing but boxer shorts. He had 'road rash' and a head injury.
"Because of the head trauma, it was significant enough that he be flown out to St. Mary's (Medical Center)," said Port St. Lucie Police spokesman Tom Nichols.
The teen told investigators a car had hit him.
"However things at this time don't seem to be quite as they appear and his injuries were not the result of a traffic crash so it's been turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division," Nichols said.
Police haven't released the teen's identity yet. All they would say was that he lived somewhere nearby.
James said his wife was shaken by what happened. "She was scared as she almost hit the child."
And neighbors were shaken to hear the news. "Would be very distressing because nothing like this has ever happened in this area," Byron James said.
