PORT ST. LUCIE — One man was shot in the hip and another robbed of about $1,200 and a necklace Wednesday morning in the rear parking lot of Mickey Finns Sports Grille, according to Port St. Lucie police .
The 23-year-old shooting victim was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce and is expected to recover, according to police and a report.
Police about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday went to the incident in the 200 block of Southwest Port St. Lucie Boulevard, just east of Florida's Turnpike. Mickey Finns closes at 2 a.m.
A 24-year-old man told police that he and his friend — the 23-year-old shooting victim — were confronted by two males with guns. The males pointed guns at the victims and demanded money.
The 24-year-old man said his silver necklace was taken during the struggle and that he was pushed to the ground. He also said he handed over about $1,200 that he had in his pocket.
The 24-year-old man, listed as a Vero Beach resident, said as he handed over his money, his 23-year-old friend was struck by gunfire. Several shots were fired, and the 23-year-old victim, listed as a Port St. Lucie resident, was shot in the hip.
The 24-year-old man said the assailants ran north through the parking lot and then through some bushes. He heard a car speed away, but wasn't certain of the direction it traveled.
He described one of the suspects as a light-skinned male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. The other was described as a dark-skinned male wearing dark clothing.
