PORT ST LUCIE, Fla. - On Wednesday afternoon Joy Rene Castillo was pulled over by Port St Lucie police after they received a call about a possible drunk driver in the area of SW Port St Lucie Blvd and SW Gatlin Blvd.
Investigators say that they stopped Castillo’s car at SW Dinner and SW Gatlin Boulevard. Officers say that Castillo was too impaired to drive and she was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. Castillo was placed in handcuffs and put in the back of the police car.
Police says that when Castillo was placed in the rear seat of the cruiser, she was able to free herself from the handcuffs and began kicking the rear window of the car. Castillo, according to police, kicked the window several times and hard enough to knock the window off its track and crack the frame.
Castillo, according to police, kicked and elbowed an officer who tried to remove her from the vehicle. Castillo also tried to head butt the officer before he was able to get her under control, according to her arrest report. Once back in custody, Castillo was taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.
Castillo was charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, attempted escape, criminal mischief, and driving while license suspended.
