PORT ST LUCIE, Fla. - Port St. Lucie Police along with the US Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force have arrested soccer coach Joseph Christopher Gianquitti for suspected lewd or lascivious conduct on a teen boy.
An arrest report released by the Port St Lucie police says that for more than one year, Gianquitti was accused of molesting one of his soccer players on multiple occasions.
According to an arrest affidavit, Gianquitti is the vice president of the Port St. Lucie Soccer Club. Police say the acts occurred at Gianquitti’s residence and the soccer field’s clubhouse located at 700 SW Carmelite Street, Port St. Lucie.
Gianquitti was hiding in the clubhouse and when his wife tried to pick him up in the parking lot US Marshals took him into custody.
Investigators say Gianquitti was a trusted friend of the alleged victim's family and would buy shoes and other gifts for the teen and would provide transportation at the victim’s request.
The arrest report says that the victim became tired of Gianquitti’s acts towards him and told Gianquitti on numerous occasions to stop touching him. Police say they found out about the suspect after the alleged victim told his parents.
The teen and the coach had such a close relationship that the alleged victim's family even referred to him as a "second father."
"You put your trust in the people who are running the organization and the coaches so they need to be held to a high standard when they violate the trust, it's a heartbreak for everyone," said Port St. Lucie Police Sergeant Frank Sabol.
Gianquitti bonded out of jail last night.
Port St. Lucie Police Detectives are continuing their investigation into this matter and request that if anyone has information to contact Detective Chris Fulcher at (772) 873-6518.
