Family moves cross-country for nonexistent Digital Domain job

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Three weeks ago, Erinn Alberts got an amazing offer for her "dream job" as a Production Accountant at Digital Domain Media Group's Port St. Lucie office. Her husband, Aaron, said he picked up on her enthusiasm.

"She looks at me, she goes, 'Honey, we're going. We're moving to Florida,'" he recalled.

He said they spent several days preparing for the 1,400-mile move. They sold all of their furniture, packed their bags and moved with just the clothes on their backs.

"Said goodbye to New Hampshire, hit the road," he said. "That was about 30 hours ago. I'm pretty tired."

"Kind of like it felt like we were coming home. Fate," said Erinn. Aaron agreed, "We were so excited, we were singing songs all the way down here. The boys were cheering, 'We're going to Florida.'"

"We were about five minutes before the exit to get here, and we got this phone call from our relocation specialist, the lady who helped us find this apartment for the next 29 days," said Aaron. "She goes, 'Have you talked to HR yet?' I'm like, 'No, why?' thinking, is this going to be bad, is this going to be bad?"

It was worse than either of them could have imagined: word of a company closure. Now, they're trying to figure out how to live on the only $200 they have left.

"I prayed and prayed for a door to open up for our family, and this was it," Erinn said, getting emotional. "It seemed like such a great opportunity."

"Our hearts go out to the families who have been with this company for years," explained Aaron. "I know Digital Domain is still going strong in some parts of the world. I hope they hear this, and know they kind of left a couple stranded."
