PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - After being beaten and bruised early Friday morning, an ambulance transported an elderly Port St. Lucie woman to a nearby hospital.
Police say, a man broke into her Spanish Lakes Golf Village home and physically hurt her.
"It's so sad, I mean, she can't even fight back!" said Ray Follano, a concerned neighbor.
"She received some bruising and possible fractures to her body," said Tom Nichols, Port St. Lucie Police spokesman.
The crime has Follano, a security guard company director, worried about the safety of his family. His bedridden father lives just eight doors down, and now things feel more vulnerable.
"I mean, this is not the place for this to be happening. You wouldn't think that," Follano said about the mobile and concrete home park in port St. Lucie
There's a weekly newsletter, horseshoes, a shuffleboard club and Monday night bridge. It used to feel safe to Follano.
"It's intolerable," said Nichols, who has many unanswered questions about the crime. As of Friday afternoon, he says all investigators know is the suspect is a man.
Nichols says investigators will interview the victim, when she's up to it. They're hoping community members will share information about why a woman was hurt and who did it.
Port St. Lucie Police ask you to call them at (772) 871-5000 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477, if you have any information to share in this ongoing investigation.
