PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A Port St. Lucie mother is charged with child neglect after dozens of cats are discovered inside her home.
Police say they arrested 54-year-old Christa Rupprecht because of the living conditions inside.
A cable company worker who came out to the property on SW Cremona Street this morning called police after the worker was overcome by the smell.
Wearing hazmat suits, Port St. Lucie Animal Care and Control agents went inside and found cats everywhere.
Rupprecht's two sons were taken from the home.
"It's been like this for 3 or 4 years. The stench is awful. The kids haven't been outside in like 3 years,” said neighbors Melissa and Louis Broz.

This is the second time this year authorities had been called out to this home.
In January, about 30 cats were removed from the home. The animals taken today were different cats.
