PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - It's been three days since she got the news but that doesn't make it any easier for Erinn Alberts.
"I feel very shell-shocked. I feel very paralyzed about what happens next," she said Monday from her family's rental unit.
Alberts and her husband Aaron are trying to remain upbeat. The family of five sold everything and moved here from New Hampshire only to discover Friday that Erinn's new job with Digital Domain no longer existed.
A lot of people may be paying the price for this company's downfall.
While the City of Port St. Lucie could bear the brunt of the financial burden locally, St. Lucie County did provide $8 million dollars in federal stimulus funds.
"When we were approached by Port St. Lucie, we then passed that along to Port St. Lucie to work with them so they might be able to make a deal happen," said St. Lucie County Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky.
While Digital Domain's headquarters in Tradition is shutting down, the company still has a large presence in the area. At least when it comes to signage. Since 2010, the spring training home of the New York Mets has been named Digital Domain Park. Commissioner Dzadovsky says the company did not make its last payment in July but there's no immediate name change coming.
Over at the Treasure Coast Food Bank, something immediate is already happening to try and help those now out of work. A little phone with turn of the millennium technology sits on a desk. It's the new hotline set up to offer assistance. In the first hour it was operational, eight people had already called.
"Most people had food through the week, but they were worried about next week," said Judy Cruz, the Executive Director of the Food Bank.
The Food Bank's hotline will be operational weekdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can call 772-971-0391.
On Thursday, Workforce Solutions will be hosting a "Rapid Response" event at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center across from City Hall. It's designed to help those newly out of work employees with the tools they need to embark on a new job search.
