PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A 19-year-old man accused of burglarizing a home off Becker Road and beating a police dog was arrested Tuesday after being shocked with a stun device, according to an affidavit released Wednesday.

Burchell Bailey, of the 500 block of Southwest Bradshaw Circle, faces charges including burglary occupied dwelling, resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement dog following the morning incidents.

Police say a woman in the 100 block of Southwest Milburn Circle saw a man next to her bedroom window with something in his hand. She heard the window smash and saw a person identified as Bailey reach in and unlock the window.

The woman ran out of the home and Bailey fled. Police used a helicopter in efforts to apprehend Bailey, also tracking him with a dog.

Police reported Bailey didn’t follow orders to stop and that he started striking a police dog “several times in an intentional malicious manner,” an affidavit states. Bailey’s listed address is less than two miles from the scene of the burglary,

Bailey was apprehended after being shocked with the stun device. The woman identified Bailey as the man who smashed her window, the affidavit said.
