PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A 3-year-old boy was airlifted to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center after nearly drowning in the family pool Saturday afternoon, said Master Sergeant Frank Sabol spokesman of the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
When Port St. Lucie Police and St. Lucie County Fire Rescue crews arrived, they took over rescue efforts and began to perform CPR on 3-year-old Nehemiah Smith. He was then taken to St.Lucie Medical center before he was ultimately flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in critical condition, Port St. Lucie Police said.
The near drowning took place in the 1600 block of Southwest Taurus Lane around 12:55 p.m., said Sergeant Sabol.
Essence Smith, Nehemiah’s mother, told police and fire crews that her son fell into the pool while she was packing boxes inside of her home in preparation for a move. Nehemiah’s aunt, Ebony Paramoore, pulled him from the pool and immediately began administering CPR before police and crews arrived, Sergeant Sabol said.
Port St. Lucie detectives are investigating this incident.
