ST, LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. - A 61-year-old Port St. Lucie woman has died and two others have been injured in a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon near U.S. 1 and Rio Mar Drive in St. Lucie County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Patricia E. Berzler and 64-year-old Robert R. Berzler were flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute in Fort Pierce. She later succumbed to her injuries while Robert Berzler remains in critical condition, said Sergeant Mark G. Wysocky. It was not immediately known how the two are related.
John Rudolph Bologna, 49, of Stuart, was taken to St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie in serious condition, Wysocky said.
The Berzlers were traveling north on U.S. 1 just north of Rio Mar Drive when the driver lost control of the 2010 Toyota Rav4 and began traveling in a northwesterly direction and unto the median, crashing into an oak tree. The car continued traveling in a northwesterly direction across the inside and center lanes, striking the 2001 Toyota Tacoma driven by Bologna, according to FHP.
The 2:45 p.m. crash is under investigation, Wysocky said.
