PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The wife of a fallen Treasure Coast officer, killed in the line of duty, is breaking her silence.
Holly Morales came out with her two young daughters to a fundraiser honoring the memory of her husband, Sgt. Gary Morales.
When asked how she has been making it every day, Holly says her daughters give her strength. She's been coping, and leaning heavily on family.
The girls know their father is gone, but Holly believes he's somehow still near.
"They understand, they're smart," she said. "They get it. The little one says he's always here, so he probably is. I don't doubt it."
This fundraiser for Sgt. Morales had a barbecue, memorial t-shirt sales and a raffle.
Officer Morales was a St. Lucie County deputy who was gunned down on a traffic stop on February 28th.
His wife says the tremendous outpouring of support is helping her to heal, and the love of her family and two daughters.
"I have my family, they're great," she said. "They've always been there for me. All of them. I got a great family."
The man accused of shooting Sgt. Morales, Eirise Tisdale, remains in jail.
