Girl struck by vehicle on U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - An 8-year-old girl was struck and injured by a vehicle Saturday while attempting to cross U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce.

The girl was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach following the incident,  Fort Pierce Police Department spokesman Sgt. Dennis McWilliams said. Her medical condition was not immediately available Sunday morning.

The girl was with a group of people crossing from the east side of the highway's 2500 block when she was struck, McWilliams said.

The incident remained under investigation Sunday morning.
