UPDATE: All lanes are open on I-95 in Fort Pierce.

EARLIER STORY:

FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Southbound lanes on Interstate 95 in Fort Pierce are closed this morning after a tractor trailer hit two exit ramp impact attenuators and burst into flames.

Around 6:40 a.m., the semi smacked into the southbound Okeechobee Road/State Road 70 exit ramp attenuators, highway devices used to cushion a crash, and caught fire.

All southbound lanes are closed at Okeechobee Road and State Road 70 (Exit 129) due to the fire, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

An inside northbound lane at Okeechobee Road/State Road 70 was temporarily blocked to facilitate emergency vehicles, but has since been reopened.

"As a result of this incident, diesel fuel clean-up, asphalt roadway repairs, and attenuator repairs are necessary before the I-95 southbound lanes can open," Florida Department of Transportation spokesperson Kathleen Dempsey said.

All southbound traffic is being diverted to Okeechobee Road/State Road 70.

Dempsey said crews are working to have at least one lane open by early afternoon and all lanes open by mid-afternoon.

YouReporter Rick Smith sent in a photo of the scene.

There is no word on any injuries.
