FORT PIERCE — A 15-year-old was shot and wounded here Saturday night, not far from where an estimated 120 people marched only a few hours earlier to protest gun violence that took the life of an 18 year old last Sunday.
Police were called to the 2100 block of Juanita Avenue about 9 p.m. Saturday. There, they found the boy who had been shot in the arm. His injuries appeared minor, said Fort Pierce Police Sgt. Dennis McWilliams. The youth, whose name was not available late Saturday night, was at a party, but the shooting appears to have occurred in the street, McWilliams added.
He said detectives still were trying to find a suspect late Saturday night and to determine if the shooting occurred where officers were called or happened elsewhere.
The 2100 block of Juanita Avenue is about two miles from the North 14th Street location where Westwood High School senior Torial Roberts was shot and killed six days earlier. Roberts, 18, died in the arms of his mother, Kisha Armstrong, who organized Saturday's march against gun violence.
Anyone with information about Saturday's shooting or the murder of Roberts six days ago is urged to call Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 800-273-8477. Callers may remain anonymous and still be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward.
