FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Paradise Park is a place meant for kids to be kids, but Saturday evening the area around the park turned into a crime scene.
A 15-year-old was shot around 9 p.m. near the Fort Pierce park.
"It was a kids party," Carl Chisholm who lives nearby the shooting scene said. "They had the bounce house over there at the park and you know that's bad when you go to shooting at a kids party."
Investigators say the teenager, who was not identified because of his age, was shot near the 2100 block of Juanita Avenue. He is expected to survive.
The shooting happened several miles from where 18-year-old Toriell Roberts was killed last week.
"It's been hard for us every day," Roberts' grandma Sandra Wilson said.
It's so hard for Wilson that she started crying while talking about her grandson.
His mom, Kisha Armstrong, is still hurting badly and wishing she could hear her son's voice.
"I miss him saying, 'Mom, where you at?' I'm always going to miss that because I'm not going to get those phone calls anymore," Armstrong said.
Her son's death has been a call to action for her.
Just hours before the shooting near Paradise park, she gathered more than a hundred people to march with her through the city in an anti-gun violence rally.
"It turned out great for the march," Armstrong said. "But my word didn't get out clear enough, not to me if a 15-year-old got shot yesterday. My word didn't get out good enough."
The shooting of the 15-year-old makes her want to get the word out even more.
"The violence has to stop you know," she said. "If somebody talks about you that doesn't mean you go and shoot them. You get in a fight that doesn't mean you go shoot and kill somebody."
That message is one she plans to march with each month.
In the short term, she hopes it solves her son's murder and other shootings.
In the long run Armstrong hopes it stops the shootings in her city.
