FORT PIERCE, Fla. -  Police have charged a 55-year-old man with burning the inside of car owned by a woman who spurned his advances, according to reports.

Domingo Aranda, of the 900 block of Kanner Drive, Fort Pierce, told police the fire was an accident while he was drunk. Police quoted him as saying he was getting clothes out of the woman's car late at night, on Jan. 6, when his cigarette ignited tequila he spilled in the 2002 Hyundai.

Aranda did admit to threatening to burn the woman's house down during five phone calls he made to the woman, according to a report of his arrest Monday. He is charged with second-degree arson and burglary of an unoccupied vehicle in the 3100 block of Duban Terrace, Fort Pierce.
