FORT PIERCE, Fla. - A man who allegedly beat his son with a chain has been charged with cruelty, according to an arrest affidavit.
Robert Lee Ingram, 34, of the 900 block of North 17th Street, was booked Friday into the St. Lucie County Jail on a charge of cruelty to a child and aggravated abuse, the affidavit states. He was released Saturday on $30,000 bond, according to a jail spokeswoman.
The boy’s teacher noticed a mark on his neck about two weeks ago and reported the injury Friday to the Florida Department of Children and Families after the boy told her how the mark was made, the arrest affidavit states.
The boy told Fort Pierce police officers and a DCF worker that his father had hit him once with a metal dog leash after he received a “yellow” for his daily report at school, the affidavit states.
The boy’s older siblings said Ingram has hit the boy with a belt, and the youngest child, age 4, said the boy was hit with a chain and sticks, it states.
Ingram said he punishes the boy with a belt and had not hit him with a chain, although he said he had put a chain over his son’s neck during play.
