PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- An 18-year-old was arrested Thursday and charged with manslaughter after shooting his brother at a Port St. Lucie home, police said.
Evans Honord is accused of shooting his 21-year-old brother Shadrac Honord at a friend's house at 1816 SW Cameo Boulevard during a "farewell party," according to PSL police spokesman Thomas Nichols.
During the party, detectives say a fully-loaded Taurus, .40-caliber handgun that belonged to a friend was on the living room couch.
Nichols said Evans picked up the gun.
"[He] was handling it, and the gun discharged striking his brother on the right side of the torso," said Nichols.
When police arrived, they found Shadrac on the living room floor with a single gunshot wound. Emergency crews planned to fly him to a hospital, but he died while in an ambulance.
Evans has been taken to St. Lucie County Jail.
Police say the investigation is still active and ongoing.
