FORT PIERCE, Fla. - “It’s absolutely unbelievable," said Joey Yannucci's grandma Sheila Bassett.
Joey's family was amazed by the showing for the 11-year-old boy. Wednesday night, hundreds came out to support Joey at a Van Duzer Foundation fundraiser at Big Apple Pizza and Pasta in Fort Pierce.
“Pick up for Josh," hollered a helper.
There were so many orders, the wait for food was two hours at one point. The line curled outside the door, and that's great news because all the money raised will be used to help pay for the Frances K. Sweet Magnet School student's medical bills.
Yannucci was critically injured in a bus crash last month. His brother's best friend, Aaron Beauchamp, died.
“With tremendous support like this and the prayers, we’ve got this thing. It’s just a matter of time," said Anthony Yannucci, Joey's dad. He says he can't wait to tell his family how overwhelming the fundraiser was and about all the people in "Team Joey" t-shirts.
Joey and his mom are at Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood for Joey's rehab. His dad says it hasn't been easy.
“I said it’s going to be a long road, and this is the very beginning," said Yannucci.
