FORT PIERCE — Police were called to the Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts on Friday after gunfire broke a window and damaged the school, but caused no injuries, a police spokesman said.

“We don't know if it was crossfire from something else,” Fort Pierce police Sgt. Dave Cuti said.

Cuti said the incident happened about 11 a.m. He declined to saw how many shots were fired, but said it was “multiple.”

He said police have no evidence to suggest the classroom or anyone inside was an intended target.

The school was on lockdown for about an hour according to St. Lucie County School District Public Information Officer Janice Karst,

She said parents were notified by outbound phone calls and that normal schedules have resumed.

Anyone with information is asked to call Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 800-273-TIPS.
