FORT PIERCE —A fundraiser to benefit injured Martin County firefighter Jahwann McIntyre will take place 4 to 10 p.m. Jan. 30 at Big Apple Pizza and Pasta, 2311 S. 35th St., Fort Pierce, sponsored by the Van Duzer Foundation.
McIntyre, 22, is recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital's burn unit in Miami. The firefighter became trapped Dec. 27 while searching a burning house at 1151 S.W. Bluewater Way in Western Martin County for people who were possibly trapped inside.
Before his injury, McIntyre often volunteered with the Van Duzer Foundation at fundraisers helping other families in need.
According to a foundation news release, 100 percent of proceeds from food and beverage sales, staff salaries and tips from the Jan. 30 event will be donated to the McIntyre family.
The Florida's Blood Centers will be accepting blood donations at the event.
