A Fort Pierce man died early Saturday morning when a Ford van veered off Buchanan Drive and struck a concrete mailbox in Indian River Estates, east of White City.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported Frank Louis Ford, 43, was driving the van south on Buchanan Drive about 12:19 a.m. and traveling at high speed when he tried to slow for the intersection with Bradley Street. The van veered to the right, went off the road and struck a concrete mailbox.
The van overturned and Ford, who was not wearing a safety belt, was thrown out and onto the road. He was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute and pronounced dead.
The crash remained under investigation Saturday.
