FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Police in Fort Pierce say they've taken a big step toward reducing gang violence in the city.

As part of "Operation Cease Fire," Police Chief Sean Baldwin announced the arrest of 5 known gang members on Wednesday. The suspects are accused of everything from racketeering to attempted murder.

They were described as the "enforcers" of the 13th Street gang. Chief Baldwin said these arrests should send a message to other gangs in the city.

"You have a choice to make," stated Baldwin. "Either stop the violence that is destroying our community, or you will spend the rest of your life in prison. That is both a warning and a promise."

Ft. Pierce police are working with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the DEA, and the State Attorney's office. More arrests are expected.
