No one was injured when gun went off, said police spokesman Sgt. Dennis McWilliams, who also reported that the gun had been stolen last November in St. Lucie County.
Police responded to a 5:30 p.m. anonymous call that shots had been fired in the 900 block of North 23rd Street. Police learned the suspect was wearing a black shirt and maroon shorts and two Fort Pierce Police officers saw a juvenile who matched the description.
McWilliams said the officers noticed that the boy appeared to be hiding something in his waistband. They reported the boy pulled the weapon out of his waistband and tried to hand it to another person. Instead, the gun fell to the ground and fired a single round. It does not appear the bullet struck anyone or anything, McWilliams said.
Police charged the juvenile with carrying a concealed firearm, grand theft and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile. He was taken to the juvenile detention center.
