FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- An alleged drug dealer is in the hospital Thursday morning, after being shot by a St. Lucie County detective and a Fort Pierce police officer.
The shooting happened Wednesday night in a field behind Dan McCarty Middle School in Fort Pierce.
According to investigators, the unnamed suspect was being pursued as part of an anti-crime detail.
Deputies say the suspect tried to ram into their vehicles with his truck.
The suspect drove into a field behind the middle school. Investigators say he then rammed a squad car with his truck, then tried to drive into deputies and officers who were out of their cars.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital to be treated. His condition has not been released at this time.
The names of the law enforcement agents who opened fire have not been released yet.
According to the public information officer for St. Lucie County Schools, classes will go on as scheduled at Dan McCarty Middle School.
