FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- - A convicted sexual offender was arrested and jailed on Thursday after Fort Pierce Police said they found him with his pants zipped down near a crowded school playground full of children.
Police said they got a call about a suspicious man near Lincoln Park Head Start Preschool. When authorities arrived, the allegedly found David Wright, 47, with his fly open, carrying a knife and a package of Kool-Aid.
According to an arrest affidavit, Wright told officers he was just there to relax and that he does it all the time.
Parents of children who attend the school said that they were never told of the incident.
"Yeah, they should have notified all of us, that's disgusting," said Mandy Brickles, a parent.
Brickles and many other parents said they had never heard of any issues at the school in the past, but that the recent incident puts them on edge.
"They can do things through the gate. Just because the gate is there doesn't mean they can't do something to them," said Mary Shelton, a grandmother of a student.
School administrators would not speak about the issue. Instead, they referred all questions to a corporate number. However, a phone call seeking a comment was not returned.
