FORT PIERCE — A 27-year-old man says he was shot in the finger while trying to stop an attempted armed robbery on Edgewood Terrace, according to police reports.
Officers quoted the Port St. Lucie resident as saying he left his girlfriend's house around noon and was walking along Edgewood Terrace, at North 16th Street, on Tuesday when a man pointed a small handgun at him and demanded everything in his pockets.
When the gun was pointed at his face, the Port St. Lucie resident said he pushed the firearm away and the gun fired, hitting his index finger. The unidentified assailant ran away. The long-haired person is described as being 18 to 25 years old, weighing 180 pounds and had two gold teeth. He wore a black shirt and blue jeans.
After the incident, the injured man flagged down a motorist and got a ride to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute. Police questioned him there.
