New details in Boynton Beach, Delray Beach chase: Two arrested after alleged drug deal, robbery

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- Police activity in a Delray Beach neighborhood Tuesday afternoon was the result of a drug deal, according to the Boynton Beach Police Department.

Lenard Reginald Newsome, 20, and Sherman Larmor Griffin, 19, were charged with three counts of robbery with a firearm after officers sa they set up a meeting to sell marijuana to three men, but instead robbed them of $15,000.

According to an arrest affidavit, officers responded to calls of an armed robbery in the area of 330 NW 12th Avenue in Boynton Beach Tuesday afternoon. Using vehicle descriptions provided by the caller, officers said they stopped three men driving south on Boynton Beach Boulevard who informed them they had just been robbed by three other men.

Officers then located Newsome and Griffin, as well as a third person, and began pursuing them eastbound on West Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, according to an affidavit.

The chase finally came to end at 112 SW 8th Avenue in Delray Beach, at which time police say Newsome, Griffin and the third man fled from their vehicle and into a neighborhood.

Newsome and Griffin were apprehended, but the third man was not located and is still on the loose.

Officers later learned that the three men who claimed they were robbed traveled from the city of Sebring to Boynton Beach to purchase marijuana from Newsome, Griffin and another man, according to an affidavit. According to an affidavit, Newsome and Griffin forced the three men out of their car and held them at gunpoint with handguns and an AK-47, which police later recovered from their vehicle.

The men from Sebring were asked to empty their pockets and hand over a total of $15,000, an affidavit states.

A probably cause affidavit did not specify whether the three men listed as victims were charged with any crime.

Newsome and Griffin were also charged with three counts of false imprisonment.
