According to the National Retail Federation, the cost of sending just one child to school is about $600.

To help offset the high cost of going to class, local retailers are offering specials for parents who are gearing up.

Goodwill is offering great prices on back to school clothes, shoes and supplies. For those heading away to college, the organization also offers deals on desks, computers and other necessities needed to move away from home.

The company also offers a new service called "GoodGeeks," which refurbishes computers to sell them at an affordable price.

Aside from shopping at Goodwill, there are other ways to save money.

Experts suggest looking for coupons in the Sunday newspaper, avoid buying more expensive supplies featuring celebrities and using apps that can scan barcodes to compare prices.
