DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Lexa Berman may have missed her ticket to the next round of X Factor, but police say a weekend performance in Delray Beach was enough to land her a ride to jail.
The 22-year-old Highland Beach woman – who auditioned for the X Factor talent show in front of Britney Spears and Simon Cowell – was arrested for allegedly driving while drunk.
According to a Delray Beach Police report, it began with a crash at the intersection of Linton and South Ocean boulevards just after midnight:
Berman first collided with another car, the report says, and she then crashed into some bushes and a block wall just down the road.
When police found her, Berman said she had two drinks at a show in West Palm Beach earlier in the night. When an officer had her perform a sobriety test along the side of the road, Berman piped up.
"Can't even do that sober," she said, laughing, according to the report.
Berman failed the test.
She was unable to balance while walking heel to toe. She stumbled into the bushes.
"The defendant had to be reminded to keep her leg in the air," an officer wrote in the report.
She then blew for a blood-alcohol test. The results showed a .288 and .275 – more than three times the legal limit in the State of Florida.
Police booked Berman in the Palm Beach County Jail around 3 a.m. She bailed herself out around 8 a.m. Monday.
Berman auditioned for The X Factor in San Francisco, taking the stage in front of Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and L.A. Reid. The show, in its second season, gives aspiring singers a chance to compete for a recording contract.
Her audition aired on television in September.
"I'm just trying to make it as a singer and a dancer and a performer," Berman told the judges. "That's my dream, and I'm gonna do it."
Berman then sang Alex Clare's song "Too Close"
But her performance was a flop: The crowd booed. Cowell interrupted. Spears called her "boring."
She did not make it to the next round.
