Video accompanying this story showed the sign for Renaissance Learning Academy, which is located next to one of the Palm Beach Charter Schools. The Palm Beach School District is not recommending closure of Renaissance Learning Academy.
A Delray charter school will close and two other county charter schools will remain open. That’s the decision of the Palm Beach County School Board, which on Wednesday evening voted not to renew its contract with Excel Leadership Academy charter school in Delray Beach, but to allow My Choice Academy and Leadership Academy West to remain open, according to Nat Harrington, spokesman for the school board.
The school board voted 4-2 not to renew its contract with Excel, in effect forcing the charter school to close next school year. The school serves at-risk and needy children.
My Choice Academy was spared closing, after the board deadlocked 3-3 on a recommendation to end its contract with the Riviera Beach school.
Leadership Academy also will remain open. The board voted 4-2 to spare the West Palm Beach school.
