SUBURBAN DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - An elderly Delray Beach man died Saturday morning after losing consciousness behind the wheel.

David R. Armstrong, 82, was traveling on West Atlantic Avenue, just west of  Lyons Road, when he passed out, veered his 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis off the road, through a drainage ditch and into a private parking lot before  knocking over a mailbox and coming to rest against a tree, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office media release.

When rescue crews arrived on scene around 10:45 a.m., they found Armstrong unresponsive. He was taken to Delray Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
