DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - The race is on to replace outgoing Delray Beach mayor Woodie McDuffie.
Two candidates with big titles are going head-to-head.
Wednesday, City Commissioner Tom Carney stood in commission chambers to say his legal, financial and public policy background makes him uniquely qualified.
"I took the lead this year in going through the surplus funds the city had in order to find a way to balance the budget," said Carney.
Carney is running against former planning board chair Cary Glickstein, who says he will be a financial steward.
Glickstein has held the position of city planning board chair, and is a real estate developer.
"I think it's time that we have some leadership in protecting our neighborhoods and prioritizing economic recovery," said Glickstein.
With declining revenues, the next mayor will still face a strapped budget and a slew of questions about the future of development.
The election is being held in March.
