DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - A six-year-old boy accidently shot himself on Saturday outside his Delray Beach residence according to police.
Investigators said the little boy was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
According to Delray Beach Police Sgt. Nicole Guerriero, the six-year-old was outside when he found a gun on the ground near the car owned by his parents.
Police said charges have not been filed but they are looking into why the gun was out in the open in the first place.
"We want to know where did the gun come from. You know, why was there a gun in the street? that's one of the biggest things we want to know. Because if the child had access, anyone in the neighborhood could have had access to it in that area," said Guerriero.
The boy was rushed to nearby Delray Medical Center where police characterized his wound as "superficial." They said his wound was not considered life threatening.
