DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- A Delray Beach police officer was arrested Wednesday, following an internal affairs investigation.
Officer David Chin faces one charge of perjury and three counts of official misconduct after investigators say he developed a personal relationship with a woman who eventually became a confidential informant under his command.
Investigators also claim Chin lied about that relationship during a deposition, and lied about how much information she provided. Authorities say those lies were used to build a case against a drug suspect.
This series of alleged lies was designed to conceal his relationship with the woman which was documented by text messages, according to investigators.
As part of that investigation, Chin and three officers were placed on leave.
Several days ago, another officer was cleared of charges but cited for wrongdoing after he allegedly pursued a woman in his role as a police officer.
"I am confident in the systems that are in place, both our internal affairs system and the state judicial system. The Delray Beach Police Department does not condone and will not overlook violations of our policies and procedures and certainly will not allow violations of the law. We will now let this case proceed through the criminal justice system," said Delray Beach Police Chief Anthony Strianese.
Chin was released on bond Wednesday night.
